International activities
Since 2003 the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BKDP) has been the affiliate of the International Trade Unions Confederation (ITUÑ) based in Brussels. Today the IÒUÑ is the largest and most influential world trade union organization which has 236 affiliated union federations in 154 countries and territories representing more than 155 million workers.
The ITUÑ maintains direct relations with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and has the consultative status in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It deals with the UNESCO and the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and with some other international bodies.
The ITUÑ represents trade union movement at the international forums as well as in relations with financial institutions like International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
The BKDP Chairman is one of the Deputies of the President of the ITUÑ Executive Board.
The BKDP maintains close links and cooperation with the ITUÑ affiliates worldwide. Particularly, the friendly relations were established with the following union federations of the CIS countries: Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia (FNPR), ALL-Russia Confederation of Labour (VKT), Confederation of Labour of Russia (CLR), Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine (FPU), Confederation of Free Trade Unions of Ukraine (KSPU); General Federation of Labour of Moldova; Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Georgia and with others.
Useful cooperation ties are established with national trade union centers constituting the Baltic Trade Union Network (BASTUN). This network affiliates trade unions from 11countries of the region representing more than 12 million workers. They are the Independent and Self-governed trade union “Solidarnost” of Poland and the OPZZ union, three union confederations of Lithuania, trade unions of Latvia and Estonia, Confederation of Germans Trade Unions (DGB), national unions of the Nordic States and of the Scandinavian region.
The BKDP maintains a long-term and fruitful cooperation with Trade Union Confederation of the Netherlands (FNV) and the Swedish union Confederations of LO-TCO.
The BKDP takes part in the implementation of the EC program on cooperation between the territorial trade unions of the EURO-NEMEN region.
In the near future the BKDP is planning to establish relations with the French national trade union centre “FORCE UVRIER” and the General Federation of Labour of France (CGT).
The Belarusian Independent Trade Union (BNP) affiliating miners and chemical workers is the member organization of the International Federation of Chemical Energy, Mine & General Workers’ Unions (ICEM).
The BKDP is actively cooperating with ACTRAW (the ILO department on relations with workers’ organizations worldwide) and with the ILO Committee on Freedom of Association in the sphere of showing up and protection of trade union rights in Belarus.
