THE AP BKDP EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE IS INDIGNANT AT VIOLENCE COMMITTED AGAINST WORKERS OF KAZAKHSTAN
STATEMENT
by Executive Committee of Association of Trade Unions of "Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions' (AP BKDP)
Executive Committee of the AP "Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions” is indignant at the violence committed against striking oil workers on December 16 in Zhanaozen town in Western Kazakhstan which resulted in killing people. The unwillingness of local authorities to react adequately and in time to justified workers’ strike lasting for nearly half a year as well as ignoring their demands have led to bloodshed.
We express our deep condolences to the families and close friends of the victims and show our solidarity support to our Kazakh brothers and sisters. We strongly urge the Kazakh authorities immediately to stop violence and to take immediate steps to bring to justice those responsible for the death of people.
The AP BKDP Executive Committee urges the Belarusian authorities to provide immediate and comprehensive public explanation on the information incoming from Kazakh media reports alleging that Belarus has sent its special police forces to Kazakhstan to repress Kazakh workers. If this really has taken place we demand the immediate withdrawal of Belarusian police troops from Kazakhstan. The independent trade union center protests resolutely against the use of Belarusian riot police to crack down on the Kazakh workers.
