MPRA CALLS FOR DEFENDING ACTIVISTS AND RANK-AND-FILE MEMBERS OF FIGHTING UNION AT RUPP “GRANITE” COMPANY
At the Congress of the Inter-Regional Automobile Industry Workers Union (MPRA) of the Russian Federation, which took place on April 8 in St. Petersburg, a resolution was adopted in support of members of independent trade union at RUPP "Granite" Company in Mikashevichi.
We, the delegates and guests of the 1st Congress of the Inter-Regional Automobile Industry Workers’ Union of Russian Federation with deep anxiety and concern are watching the rabid campaign launched by Lukashenko's regime against the activists of the independent union at RUPP ”Granite” Company established at the end of 2011 in Mikashevichi town.
For many years the Belarusian regime has been waging a bitter war against the independent trade union movement. Because of this Belarus, alongside with Burma (where military junta rules) has repeatedly been mentioned in special paragraphs - black lists of the International Labor Organization. Several years ago, the EU and U.S. have imposed economic sanctions against the country.
However, the current new attack of the government against its citizens - members of independent trade unions, proves that the authorities launching new challenge to world community and to human rights respect do not care about economic well-being of the Belarusians.
Therefore, we call on the Confederation of Labor of Russia, the International Trade Union Confederation, Global Union Federations to keep on imposing pressure on authoritarian regime of Belarus in order to defend basic human rights in the workplaces and to ensure protection to activists and rank-and-file members of the fighting union of RUPP "Granite Company".
