CITY AUTHORITIES REFUSED BKDP TO HOLD RALLY ON WORLD DAY FOR DECENT WORK
Minsk City Council refused BKDP to hold a meeting on October 7, 2013 dedicated to World Day for Decent Work explaining it by the fact that reservation for some other event has already been made in the venue and at the time period claimed and specified by the union centre.
Nearly 500 representatives of unions affiliated to BKDP planned to gather in Minsk on October 7th in the open concert venue of the 50th Anniversary of October Revolution Park and to mark this event like hundreds of thousands of trade union organizations around the world. We recall that this year the International Trade Union Confederation proposed to mark this day with the slogan: Organize! Trade unions across the world will unanimously call for social justice and decent work for all.
-- "Barring a mass event organized by independent trade unions was not a surprise to us. It is difficult to believe that on a weekday on Monday at the time from 16.00 to 18.00 claimed by the union there will be some other event in the Park. By the way, we're not too lazy so as to go and attend this event. It is clear that the authorities are afraid of us. The difficult social and economic situation in the country is forming protests among workers and the regime fears that BKDP can act as a consolidating force in generating protest moods. As it is already known that the rating of independent trade unions for the recent time has increased significantly. Today nearly 40 percent of the citizens of the country trust us,” -- says the BKDP leader Alexander Yaroshuk.
