BKDP STRENGTHENS CONTACTS WITH GERMAN TRADE UNIONS
The leadership of the BKDP national independent union centre in its premises on Friday February 11 has met the Head of Kiev Branch of F.Ebert Foundation Ursula Koch-Laugwitz and Board member of German Ver.di trade union Wolfgang Groёf.
Further development of cooperation with FES was discussed as well as establishment of contacts with Ver.di union. This union is one of the largest one in Germany. It has been formed 10 years ago by merging of 5 unions of various sectors. Wolfgang Groef, being the Board member of his union, has shown his great interest in establishing close ties with the BKDP. Certain forms of cooperation were discussed.
In the evening of the same day Wolfgang Groef and Alexander Yaroshuk, BKDP President, took part in the meeting of young politicians’ club. The event was held in the format of the “round table discussion” and was dedicated to the topic “Role and objectives of trade unions in modern society”. For two hours German and Belarusian union activists have been answering numerous questions of young politicians.
Next day, on February 12, at the International Book Fair ongoing in Minsk Wolfgang Groef has presented his book devoted to one of the most famous politicians of contemporary Germany, Johannes Rau - former President of Germany. As it is well known that on his initiative nearly 20 years ago the International Educational Center has been built in Minsk and has been named after him.
