FREE TRADE UNION PRIMARY ORGANIZATION AT BOBRUISK TRACTOR PARTS AND COMPONENTS COMPANY WILL INITIATE COLLECTIVE DISPUTE WITH EMPLOYER
The meeting to hear feed-back reports and elect new trade union activists was held on February 10 at Bobruisk Tractor parts and components company primary organization affiliated to Belarusian Free Trade Union (SPB). More than 100 delegates attended the conference. They summarized the work undertaken for the last three years, elected the leader of the organization, and also decided to initiate a collective labor dispute with the employer in connection with the failure to respect the norms developed by the company collective agreement in force.
The keynote report was presented by the chairman of the primary organization Michail Kavalkou who also acts as the President of the Belarusian Free Trade Union (SPB). The leader of the organization had much to say to delegates. Last year Michael Kavalkou himself participated in 19 court trials and paid several visits to the prosecutor offices. As an outcome, 35 million rubles were returned to the members of free trade union. The results are amazing, but this activity of the union and its leader in protecting the rights of its members was not limited by it. The resolute stand and persistence have helped to reinstate highly qualified worker Leonid Gaishun at his workplace after he has been illegally dismissed upon termination of his contract.
In the keynote report of the union leader as well as in the interventions of the delegates Gennady Lobachev and Oksana Kernozhitskaya numerous examples were cited concerning various problems the workers of the company are facing with: violations of safety regulations and temperature regimes, high gas content at workplaces, low wages – these were the problems which the union used to place before the employer and forced him to respond and eliminate the violations.
There is nothing surprising in the fact that union members highly appreciate the activities of their leader and they have re-elected Michael Kovalkov as the chairman of the organization for another term.
"I am grateful to members of the organization for their confidence. The success of free trade union is stipulated by the fact that really well-deserved and motivated workers are affiliated to the union. They never give in when pressure and threats are periodically being imposed over the union. These people are the backbone of our organization whom we can always rely on”, - said Mikhail Kavalkou.
The BKDP leader Alexander Yaroshuk, who participated in the conference said: "I got once again convinced that this union is the strongest organizations in the BKDP. Michael Kavalkou by doing a huge amount of work is justly respected and trusted by his colleagues in the union. It is equally important that, working a lot, he does not withdraw all activities into yourself and gives the chance to his activists to make a good showing. Therefore, the conference has not been reduced to a monologue of the leader, but had the character of a sharp and live discussion of many people, including representatives of the employer and the deputy general manager o Peter Slobodchuk”.
Delegates of the conference decided to initiate a collective labor dispute because of the failure of the employer to implement some of the items of the collective agreement such as dates of payment of wages, refusal to transfer of 0.15 % of the total remuneration fund for cultural and sporting activities, ban on visiting sporting and recreation complex by the members of the free union.
However, Michael Kavalkou stressed that the union remains open for dialogue with the employer, making certain steps for establishing effective social partnership at the company and waiting for the same steps from the employer’s side.
Making future plans, Michael Kavalkou has summed up: "Work, work, and work again conscientiously, honestly and in accordance with the Charter of the organization and the Law on trade unions for the benefit of workers."
