Yara continues to work with Belaruskali, however, the severance of relations is not excluded
Svein Tore Holsether, CEO of the Norwegian Yara, said that the refusal to work with Belaruskali can’t be excluded, the NRK newspaper writes. “Certainly, this is not the case when I decided that we will continue to buy potassium in Belarus at any cost. The situation may change if new information and developments appear”, – said the CEO. In the meantime, the Norwegian company continues to cooperate with Belaruskali. Let us recall that the EU and US sanctions against the majority of Belarusian potash fertilizers have not yet come into effect.
According to Zerkalo,io, Svein Tore Holsether clarified that now Yara continues to work with Belaruskali. According to him, one of the reasons why the company has not stopped cooperation with the Belarusian plant is the intention to respect the employees’ rights. He said that since September last year he had been to Belarus twice, communicated with the independent trade union movement.
Let us recall that earlier Yara decided to send its representative to Belaruskali in order to monitor the situation with the observance of the employees’ rights. In January, Belaruskali announced that it was ready to cooperate with the Norwegian company Yara on a long-term basis in the field of industrial safety and to accept the company’s specialists in order to monitor production processes. The talk was about the possibility of reinstating dismissed employees if they submit corresponding applications. Yara referred to this decision as to a positive one.
Nevertheless, Yara may stop purchasing from Belaruskali, Svein Tore Holsether said.
